WORSHIP LEADER


Job Title:  Worship Leader                                    Full-time, Exempt, Salary

 

Direct Supervisor:  Lead Pastor                           Updated: July 2020                         

 

POSITION SUMMARY

 

Under the direct supervision of the Lead Pastor, the Worship Leader is responsible to direct the contemporary worship experience and enhance the outreach ministry of the church through vibrant worship, while also assisting in the leading of the traditional worship service.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Cultivates a vision for creating a dynamic worship environment bringing glory and honor to the Lord for the seeker and the members of our congregation
  • Inspires, oversees and listens to suggestions from volunteer teams for all aspects of contemporary worship services including a variety of music styles, technical arts, drama, dance, and other appropriate vehicles of worship ministry
  • Brings an understanding of the rich heritage of hymnology and the rich history that is taught through music
  • Is a bridge builder for all of the worship services of BPUMC
  • Works closely with the directors of other ministries within the church to support worship and music for our children and families
  • Recruits (with assistance as needed from the Volunteer Coordinator), trains, mentors, motivates and oversees a network of volunteers to support the volunteer needs of the ministry 
  • Coordinates special outreach events and services such as Praise on the Lake, musicals, special holiday worship services, and concerts
  • Stays current with new and creative worship ideas

OTHER DUTIES

  • Prepares ministry reports and provides periodic updates as requested. 
  • Works with Finance Committee to develop annual budget. 
  • Monitors expenses and adheres to budget protocol and policies for requesting funds. 
  • Ensures adherence to all copyrights and licenses. 
  • Attends staff meetings and various other meetings as required regularly.

 

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

PROFESSIONAL

  • A degree in worship, music, drama, creative arts or related programs is preferred, or a minimum of six years of experience in leading and planning contemporary and traditional services 
  • Experience, education or training and is comfortable in different styles and settings of traditional and contemporary worship with the ability to not show favoritism to either style.
  • A strong knowledge of sound systems and the technical ability to manage the system.
  • Technical art ability to develop worship programs through church software and the ability to coordinate appropriate lighting for services and events
  • An accomplished vocalist with ability to read music with a combination of talent through instruments, orchestration, choral ensembles, and/or drama techniques 
  • Must be able to demonstrate strengths in building and equipping a team.
  • Previous volunteer oversight experience, and an ability to encourage, support, and mentor a large group of diverse individuals will be necessary, experience preferred
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and an ability to relate to others in an honest and compassionate manner and maintains strong communication skills through verbal and written avenues
  • Demonstrated ability to show innovation and vision casting
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in an environment with regularly changing priorities
  • Willingness to engage in continuing education to enhance professional, spiritual, and personal growth

FINANCIAL TREASURER

 

Job Title:  Financial Treasurer                             Part-time, Hourly

POSITION SUMMARY

 

Under the direct supervision of the Lead Pastor, the Financial Treasurer supports and adheres to the mission, vision, and values of the Bemus Point United Methodist Church.

 

The Financial Treasurer ensures appropriate communication regarding financial matters with all committees, ministry areas, and staff of the church.  The position manages highly confidential and sensitive information on a regular basis and maintains confidential church records, documents, lists, and reports. The Financial Treasurer deals with a diverse group of internal and external contacts and is required to use independent judgment to plan, prioritize and organize a diverse workload.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

FINANCIAL MANGEMENT

With oversight of the Finance Committee

  • Maintain the church’s financial records and accounts according to generally accepted accounting procedures for a not-for-profit, tax-exempt organization
  • Responsibilities to Finance committee include but not limited to providing weekly and monthly financial reporting and attend monthly meeting
  • Be responsible for the maintenance and data entry of the computerized financial record keeping system
  • Oversee the offering envelope distribution system
  • Prepare annual personalized financial statement to church members and constituents reflecting total contributions made for the year
  • Ensure that all donation information is provided to the appropriate committee chair (Memorial Committee, RFKC, etc.) 
  • Maintain and review all financial accounts and institutional relationships, including deposit, investment, loan, and credit card accounts
  • Administer financial commitments and contracts as approved by the Finance Committee, Trustees and/or Administrative Board
  • Reconcile, pay, and record invoices in a timely fashion
  • Administer payment of property and liability insurance premiums
  • Prepare and pay all regulatory tax and Conference apportionments
  • Maintain all church bank accounts and reconcile with the bank
  • Provide appropriate information as requested to facilitate obtaining bank loan, financing, and/or bonding for building construction and/or capital improvements
  • Assist the Pastors with year-end reports for the local church and for the Annual Conference
  • Coordinate housing allowance for pastoral staff, if applicable
  • Make required payments to the Annual Conference for clergy benefits
  • Facilitate and coordinate the annual audit with outside financial consulting firm

PAYROLL


Prepare employee semi-monthly payroll

Ensure accurate payroll records

Maintain accurate timekeeping and attendance records

Prepare and distribute W-2 and 1099 statements

 

FACILITY MANAGEMENT

With oversight of the Church Trustees

 

Serve as a liaison for outside contractor/vendor relationships

Monitor title, registration and insurance coverage for church-owned vehicle(s)

Administer policy and procedures related to parsonage including maintaining records and paying associated housing expenses

Organize and secure official records regarding buildings, contracts, etc.

 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Compose necessary articles for the monthly newsletter and congregational mailings

Exhibit reasonably regular and predictable attendance and punctuality

Attend Administrative Board Meetings as needed

Assist pastors and other staff members as needed

  • Comprehensive business, office and facilities administration experience and knowledge of tax-exempt church finances and church organizational structure preferred

  • Continual attention to detail and ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in an environment with frequently changing priorities
